Dear Community Member,

Thank you for contacting the BONFire program. As explained on the linked Frequently Asked Questions page, this no-cost program will help you create a “defensible space” around your home to protect it from wildfire. We have presently exhausted all of our grant funding and have applied for more.  If you request this service, you will be placed on a waiting list for the next grant.  Following is how to do this:

1. Return the linked Request To Participate form.

2. Let us know if you are willing to host a group meeting at your home with your neighbors. This not only leverages our time, but it also provides a much more effective firebreak when a group of neighbors all protect their homes.

3. When we receive your information you will be added to the list.

4. We will contact you as soon as possible to schedule a visit to your home.

Please be aware this is a fire protection program for homes and businesses near forested areas. Thus, you must have a structure that is either a home or a business in order to qualify. We do not do beautification projects, removal of a few dead tree limbs, or falling of dangerous, over–hanging trees. Also, we do not mow grass and weeds. When we call to set up an appointment, we will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding your specific property.

The BONFire Steering Committee is the connection between the County Commissioners, the public, and the contractors.  This committee's meetings are open to the public and take place on the first Monday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in the Bonner County Office Building just west of Sandpoint on the Dover Highway.

Again, thank you for inquiring about BONFire; we look forward to getting your information and adding your name to our waiting list.
