Boundary County Fire Safe is a county program funded with grants through the National Fire Plan.  The county commissioners contracted with Inland Forest Management, Inc., of Sandpoint, to write the County's Fire Mitigation Plan and administer the program.  The Program Manager is Ken Nielson.

The Boundary County Fire Safe Program has been in existence since 2003.  Since the beginning of the program 230 hazardous fuels treatment projects have been completed covering approximately 365 acres.  The smallest project is less than 1/2 and the largest is 79 acres in size.

Projects include creation of defensible space around homes, fuel break construction, and hazardous fuels treatment projects on large parcels.  These projects have resulted in the reduction of threat from wildfire for approximately 1,100 homes and businesses in Boundary County.
